95 POINTS - RAY JORDAN 2024 WA WINE REVIEW

"The stylish elegance of this Margaret River vintage is perfectly captured in this classy cabernet. Sourced from the Wilyabrup subregion and displaying all those blackcurrant and dark chocolate characters you expect. Firm tannins and a slinky oak addition add to the plush fruit creating a stylish extension through to the finish. Like that minerality with a trace bay leaf on the finish."

REGION & SEASON

REGION
Lapped by the ocean on three sides, Margaret River region is about 280km south of Perth. It is one of the most reliable wine growing regions in Australia; seasons are warm and dry with cooling ocean breezes, providing a long ripening period particularly well-suited to Cabernet Sauvignon vines. Margaret River’s relative isolation protect this clean and unspoiled haven from pollution of all kinds. Nearly 100 kilometres long and around 27 kilometres wide, the region has unique mesoclimates and a diverse range of soils which ensure no two vineyards are quite the same. The first commercial vineyard in Margaret River was planted in the mid-1960s and the region now has more than 200 vignerons. It is a popular tourism destination and in addition to gourmet food and wine boasts beautiful beaches, reliable surf, excellent fishing, majestic forests, caves and whale watching.

WINEMAKING

This wine is built from multiple growers in Margaret River, including old Juniper Estate Cabernet which shows its Wilyabrup pedigree. Bunches were destemmed and fermented in open fermenters and managed with classic pigeage (plunging) and pump overs.
