An unusually mild and wet winter followed by warm, calm weather in spring led to early budburst and vigorous early season growth. Fruit set was good and potential yields were very high so that early shoot thinning was necessary to maintain vine balance and achieve top quality fruit. Cool conditions over January and February slowed things down and harvest was a little early in most areas. Yields were good and fruit came into the winery in excellent condition.
The different clones were fermented separately in small open fermenters with hand plunging. The wine was matured for 12 months in a mix of old and new French oak barriques.
