95 POINTS - HALLIDAY WINE COMPANION

'Fruit comes off 2 unnamed yet disparate sites – one northern and warmer, the other southern and cooler. Destemmed, hand sorted, 2 weeks on skins and aged in French puncheons, 30% new, for 11 months. An excellent dark red with a purple tinge; dark plums, bay leaves, sweet cedary oak, baking spices and an earthy ferrous note set the regional and varietal flavours. It’s deep, rich and concentrated, with plush savoury tannins sashaying across the full-bodied palate, yet this doesn’t feel weighty. It’s complex, detailed and refreshing in its own way.' Jane Faulkner

SEASON

The 2020 season for Heathcote was challenging with drought and a number of days over 35°C. The result though was incredibly low fruit yields, but resulting in dark, rich shiraz.

WINEMAKING

This wine has fruit from two premium vineyards on Heathcote’s famous Cambrian soil –one in the north of the region which was picked in the last few days of February, and one in the south which is cooler and was picked a few weeks later. Aged for14 months in a mix of new and old French oak.
