GOLD MEDAL

MELBOURNE ROYAL WINE AWARDS 2022

96 POINTS - RAY JORDAN WINE

'This is predominantly the Mendoza clone which is clearly evident in the complexity and power which are hallmarks of this clone, most famously known for its impact on WA wines. It has been sourced from B and E block fruit with select parcels whole bunch pressed to tank and racked with full solids into French oak barriques and puncheons, of which 33% were new. Mainly indigenous yeasts were used in the fermentation, after which it spent 11 months in in Taransaud and Mercury French oak. It’s textured with a more grapefruit roasted almond character. There’s a slightly nutty nougat character in the palate with a little oatmeal cereal influence. Has a dry savoury minerality on the finish. The savoury influence shows through with a trace of varietal popcorn' Ray Jordan

95 POINTS - THE VINTAGE JOURNAL

'Pale colour. Grapefruit, tonic water, saline aromas with grilled nut notes. Well balanced wine with lovely pure grapefruit, nectarine flavours, fine loose knit chalky textures, very good mid-palate volume, a touch of viscosity and fresh integrated acidity. Finishes long and bittersweet. Classical style with mouth watering freshness. Drink now – 2027' Andrew Caillard MW

REGION

Capella Vineyard, Mornington Peninsula, VIC Australia.
Near the shores of Western Port on the Mornington Peninsula is Capella Vineyard, a small ultra-premium site with 5.2 ha of Pinot Noir and 1.6 ha of Chardonnay planted on VSP trellis.

Soils are grey clay loam with good drainage. An efficient drip irrigation system flows through the estate, and in order to reduce water usage and increase soil health and biodiversity we make our own mulch and compost teas. Other practices like hormonal pest control, interrow crops, mechanical weed control and organic fertilisers are among the management techniques used to improve soil biodiversity and vitality and overall vineyard health. The site is NASAA Certified Organic (Nov ’22) and SWA accredited (Dec ‘22).
