This is a fine example of the style: aromas of lemon, lime and chamomile with a light palate full of zesty citrus fruit and a clean, crisp finish. Ready for drinking now, the bright fruit and acid in this wine will allow it to age gracefully over the medium term.
A wet and cold winter, late bud burst and a generally cool season, led to harvest a full month later than last year’s albeit very early season. Some spring frost damage was recorded in the south-eastern and low-lying parts of the region. Fortunately, the weather settled down for flowering and fruit set was good. Rainfall was well above average and conditions were relatively cool overall, perfect for delicate aromatics in Riesling, which was the stand out for quality throughout the region. We began harvest in mid-March.
This wine was made to capture and focus the delicate aromatics and clean fruit flavours for which Clare Valley Riesling is famed. Temperature-controlled fermentation and storage protect the bright notes; there was no oak used in the making of this wine.
