TASTING NOTES
Fruit from select blocks at our Capella Vineyard was handpicked, destemmed and sorted by hand to ensure only the finest berries went into this beautifully perfumed, supple and silky wine. Try it with duck cooked confit in the French way, or Peking style; wild mushroom and truffle risotto; roasted quail and seasonal vegetables.
SEASON
Tand the Mornington Peninsula harvest was one of the earliest on record. It arrived in a hurry too, catching some vignerons by surprise; many were picking very early in February. The resulting wines have excellent flavour and weight and tend to be earlier drinking styles. third new, for 10 months
WINEMAKING
This wine has fruit from 10-year-old MV6 and 115 vines from select blocks at Capella Vineyard. The fruit was handpicked and chilled overnight then destemmed and sorted by hand. It was vinified with wild yeasts in open fermenters with hand plunging. The wine was matured for 10 months in oak barrels from a selection of Burgundian coopers, about 40% new. Meticulous blending has created a wine that shows the best of Capella Vineyard and season 2017.
Capella Vineyard is located on the shores of Western Port on the Mornington Peninsula. It is a small, ultra-premium vineyard with 4.2 hectares of Pinot Noir planted on VSP trellis.
The young vineyard is entirely hand pruned and harvested. Soils are grey clay loam and the vineyard enjoys the moderating maritime influence of Western Port, Port Phillip and Bass Strait. Planted in 2008, Capella’s young vines are already producing exceptional wines.
These rare single vineyard wines are only released in the finest vintages as the best of the best from our carefully managed vineyards.
The labels each feature a collection of objects from the vineyard the wine was grown.
Capella Vineyard is planted on soils of grey clay loam – native to the region. With vines which wrap around a beautiful lake, the vineyard is home to many native bird species including the black swan.
