Opening with stone fruit and floral aromas with bright citrus notes, this wine has layers of fruit flavour and creamy complexity derived from 11 months ageing on lees in barrel.
Vintage 2016 was marked by warm and dry conditions and the Mornington Peninsula harvest was one of the earliest on record. It arrived in a hurry too and many vignerons were picking in early February. The resulting wines have excellent flavour and weight and tend be earlier drinking styles.
The fruit was picked from early-February to mid-February and was whole-bunch pressed. The juice was fermented in barrel, some with wild yeasts, some inoculated. A selection of barrels completed malo-lactic fermentation. The wine was aged on lees in the same barrels, with regular lees stirring, for 11 months.
A maritime region about 50km south-east of Melbourne. It is surrounded by ocean and the climate is moderated year-round, with cooling ocean breezes in summer and relatively mild winters.
Soils vary from the red volcanic earth on the spine of hills running down the centre of the peninsula to grey clay loams on the plains.
