Capella Vineyard has cemented its reputation as a premium vineyard producing award winning wines, with more success at the 2017 Victorian Wine Show.
The 2016 Capella Vineyard Chardonnay was awarded a gold medal at the awards lunch at Mitchelton Wines last week. This followed success in last year’s Victorian Wine Show, in which the 2015 Capella Vineyard Mornington Peninsula Chardonnay picked up three trophies including Best Wine of Show.
While 2015 will be remembered as a standout vintage on the Mornington Peninsula, 2016 was more challenging – hot and short. Director of Winemaking Peter Dillon said it was especially pleasing to get consistently great wines results from very different vintages.
“Every year we get to know the vineyard better and understand how it performs in different conditions and how best to manage separate blocks,” Peter said.
“We’re also seeing the results of our efforts to improve overall vineyard health. Since we started compost trials in 2015 we have seen great improvements in soil health and water savings. This year we are ramping up our sustainable management to include cover crops, mulching and natural pest control measures.”
2016 Capella Vineyard Mornington Peninsula is yet to be released, 2015 vintage available for purchase.
