Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Australia showcasing Resort 19 may be over but the show must go on beyond the runway...Many Australian labels are keeping busy from launching Winter Collections to educating the industry about ethical fashion.
We take you behind the scenes to all the exclusive fashion events to see what is trending in fashion this season and fashionistas are sipping to stay stylish.
Australian Fashion Council Events
Handpicked Wines first partnered up with Australian Fashion Council (AFC) in 2018 to support Australian fashion designers hitting New York City for the very first time. Since then, we’ve become ‘partners in wine’ and proud to be supporting all the wonderful things they do to help the Australian fashion industry grow. If you’re in or interested in the fashion industry, we highly recommend checking out AFC to see what they do.
Ethical Fashion and Manufacturing
It was an afternoon of meaningful conversation around the trending topic of ethical fashion with guest speakers Bianca Spender, founder and designer of BIANCA SPENDER, Kate Bielenberg, Retail Brand Manager for CUE and Melinda Tually, Director of NDLESS.They chatted about the state of ethical fashion and how it’s changing and ‘how to’s’ in creating a responsible supply chain and utilising local manufacturing over a glass of wine.
Curated Melbourne and Sydney
We celebrated the Melbourne Curated launch with AFC a couple of months ago.Curated is a unique program from the AFC built to support Australia’s local emerging fashion labels on their journey to become robust and sustainable businesses. As part of the Curated program, labels participate in direct industry mentoring, a series of business development workshops and exciting retail activations. If you’re in Melbourne, pop into their Collins St Curated pop up to meet the labels, connect with their stories and of course, shop their incredible ranges. The pop up will be will be there until the end of June.
Also keep an eye out for Sydney Curated, launching in mid June.
Gorman + Megan Grant Launch
A collection that we were really excited to see launch this season was the Gorman + Megan Grant collaboration; so when they invited us to help celebrate this launch with them, we were delighted. The launch party was at Gorman’s Brunswick Street, Fitzroy store and was nothing short of wonderful and colourful. They celebrated with media, VIP customers, family and friends, Lisa Gorman and the artist herself - Megan Grant. Guests’ outfits were painted with Grant’s work from the collection. The pieces from the collection really reflect Grant’s love of colour, pattern and intuitive mark making that she is known for. You can find the Gorman + Megan Grant collection at Gorman stores and on their website - it will sure brighten up any winter day (we are in love with the wild flowers raincoat in particular!).
The drink of choice at the fashion events were the Versions by Handpicked wines.
With the colder weather, the Versions by Handpicked Shiraz was very popular. This South Australian Shiraz has a beautiful rich, vibrant crimson colour with aromas of dark mulberry fruit with some lovely mocha oak overtones - very on trend for winter and perfect paired with your favourite pizza!
Guests also enjoyed the South Australian Pinot Gris with aromas of green pear and lemon with hints of orange blossom. It has a fresh palate with good acidity in a crisp, light style, ideal for sipping on a long hot summer afternoon but easily as sip-able by a hot campfire longing for summer. Delicious with prawns on the barbecue or steamed scallops with ginger.
You can purchase both wines by the bottle or glass at the Handpicked Cellar Door. You can find it at select bottle shops, bars and restaurants across Australia. Send us an email to find out where!
