  Fighting food waste and hunger - why we support OzHarvest

Australia’s growing food and wine scene is putting us on the international stage as a competitive player for cutting edge dining experiences matched with incredible produce. 

While dining, gourmet cooking and online food delivery consumption rapidly grows, so does our food waste. There are people doing good work in the background to combat this. They pick up unused ingredients from restaurants and supermarkets across Australia in vans every day, using an army of volunteers and paid workers. This is OzHarvest. They bring the ingredients back to their warehouse in Alexandria where their chef cooks it, so it can be redistributed as meals for people in need.

We’ve been working with OzHarvest for 4 years now, and we have witnessed firsthand the great contribution they make, not only to our own hospitality industry, but to the global war on foodwaste and hunger.

We’re excited to be again part of their CEO Cookoff - it’s an event our founder William always looks forward to and is personally passionate about. His philosophy is that we are a building a wine business that we want to have a positive impact.

What actually happens at the OzHarvest 2019 CEO CookOff?

On March 25th top CEOs, chefs and companies will cook and work together to make a difference to Australia’s most vulnerable and reduce food waste. Once again, Handpicked Wine’s founder William Dong will be taking part in OzHarvest’s annual CEO CookOff™ - 2019 marks his third year in a row participation to this very much needed fundraising.

The CEO CookOff feeds and entertains over 1,400 people in need, while providing an opportunity for Australia’s top bosses and their staff to lead by example in service to Australians who face food insecurity.

In the lead up to the event participants raise funds in support of OzHarvest, with the goal of raising $3 million, which will provide 6 million meals to people going without all around Australia.

We can all make a difference

Funds raised will help OzHarvest to continue its work in food rescue, education and community engagement, with every $1 donated to OzHarvest mean they can deliver two meals to those in need.

From the 12th - 25th March 2019, you can support the OzHarvest CEO CookOff™ by adding a $5 donation to your bill at the Handpicked Cellar Door. Handpicked Wines will match each $5 donation you contribute. Every little bit counts!
