The Bordeaux vintage of 2016 was that rarest of vintages every vigneron dreams of: high yields of outstanding quality fruit. A wet spring set up good ground moisture, which became very important in the warm, dry summer that followed. The long, dry season promoted excellent flavour development and low disease pressure, allowing longer hang time so that good ripeness levels were easily achieved. Two welcome rain events in September refreshed the vineyards, but otherwise dry weather was perfect for the red harvest beginning in late September.
The fruit was picked in late September to mid-October in fine, dry conditions. It was destemmed and fermented in static fermenters with pumping over. The wine was aged in tank with quality French oak barrel staves to achieve an early-drinking wine with balanced fruit and oak character.
